New-Member Mentoring Program About the Program The Tennis Club has a lot to offer: intramural and extramural play, men's, women's and mixed play; ladders, tournaments, open play; doubles and triples; casual and formal social events; volunteer opportunities. We're happy to introduce new members to a mentor who can explain the court-reservation system, the ladder and tournament structures, opportunities for level-appropriate open play and league play, and suggest club members who might be good partners and opponents. Back Women's Ladder: Coordinator: Naznin Meghji Phone: 613-316-9166 E mail: meghjinaznin@gmail.com The Women's ladder is encouraging women of all levels to participate. The schedule will consist of three, three-week sessions beginning in November and ending in mid January. It is hoped that this format will prepare individuals to pick partners for the Women’s Championship Doubles which will replace the Ladder in Mid January. Interested players can register on Court Reserve. Times and Location: Thursday Afternoons 3-5, Charlotte Courts. Three, three-week sessions will be run during the months of November, December, and January. See schedule for dates. Set Up: The ladder runs for 3 weeks. A set consists of 11 points or total score after 1 hour, whichever comes first. The one hour includes warm up time. The number of games won during the 1 hour period is your score. Winners must record the scores each week on the posted schedule at Charlotte Courts. Points are accumulated per player over the 3 week session. Teams: Players are drawn up in groups of four, according to approximate skill levels. Each foursome rotates and will play once with each player over the three weeks. One player each week brings a new set of balls for play. After three weeks, the lowest scoring player will move down a group (except in the bottom group) and the highest scoring player will move up a group (except in the top section). Adjustments to the ladder will be made to add newly registered players and delete players that have elected not to play for the next session, while maintaining four person groups of generally equal skill levels. A new ladder is started every 3 weeks. General Rules: All players must be members of the Tennis Club. There will be no point penalty for using a sub. If a player fails to show up the other three players get 11 points each. A sign up list will be posted every three weeks for players to indicate if they are playing next session and for new players to sign up. If a participant has a scheduling conflict and willing opponents or if the match is rained out, it may be played at another time. Membership Booklet

Novice Tennis Many members of the Tennis Club arrived at Maple Leaf with little or absolutely no experience with the game. We have several programmes and activities to help novices get started and get playing. Taste of Tennis The Taste of Tennis programme includes both a one-session, hands-on introduction and then a series of weekly lessons. Novice Mixed Open Members' Novice Mixed Open sessions features round-robin play - players rotate onto the court in turn and play four games before rotating out - with recent Taste of Tennis graduates and other novices. The emphasis is on having fun and gaining confidence while building skills. Mentoring Programme The mentoring programme matches new players at Maple Leaf - novice or experienced - with club members who can show them the ropes: play available, how to book courts, how to find partners, etc.
